We have been looking at the different Zones.

Red - Angry.   Yellow - Silly.   Blue - Sad/ worried/ tired.   Green -Ready to learn.

We talked about:

1. What can make us feel these feelings?

2. What can we do to get back to the Green Zone -Ready to Learn.

Technology -Machines

In Rūma 2 we have been studying simple machines, and how they work to help us solve problems. We had a go at making lots of simple machines like levers, axels and pulleys.

Then we used the design process to make catapults to solve a problem.  We all had different problems to solve with our catapults.
After we designed and made them, we decided what we needed to change to improve them. We called this debugging or modifying.

Computational Thinking. Writing code for our robots.

We have been robots and programmers this week. This is our first try at writing code for our robots to follow.  Everyone understood the task so quickly, and worked together with amazing collaboration skills, showing their school values so well.  We are learning that each symbol represents an action and that you go back to the start when you finish, and repeat.

Flying Machines

We have just started learning about Machines in Rūma 2. To begin, we watched a short movie, and wrote about our own designed flying machine to show what we already know about machines.

Houses and Huts Topic

We saw a topic of Huts on our blog buddies site. We thought it would be great to do for a home learning topic. We designed dream houses and wrote about them, and built huts from lego and blankets and other things.

Penguins topic this week for Home Learning.

This week at home we have had PENGUINS as a topic. The children have had some maths and literacy activities loosely focused around this topic. On their Seesaw Bog, children record themselves reading and explaining their activities. Please click to view.

Student Easter Bunny Pictures

Students read a story on Seesaw about the Easter Bunny turning bad for a bit because children were ungrateful and didn't say thankyou. Some children drew pictures of the story.

Home Learning on Seesaw

Annabelle has been enjoying all the activities on Seesaw..and it's still the school holidays Annabelle Ka pai!  I can't wait to get started with the online and home learning, using all the fantastic digital tools we now have.

Learning from Home

Wow! With the need for us all to stay at home, we are moving into an exciting time of learning from home. There are lot's of challenges for us, but also a lot of opportunities to have fun learning.
Many Rūma 2 students have been already working on many different skills including cooking, drama, maths, reading and writing.

Google Meets for our class

Room 2 meet at 11am each day. We have read stories, checked up on work that has been posted, and even done some science experiments. One day we had silly hat day on our hangout meet.

We have a Minion Mission competition where we can complete missions to earn bananas. This is fun. There are also secret missions - this week they are to do with Mothers day.

It is great to see many of the class at the Hangout meets, just to see each others smiling faces.

Being Kaitiaki

We are Kaitiaki of our school. Here we are showing how we are guardians of our environment by picking up rubbish. Ka pai!

Pastel Portraits

We have spent time learning how to shade and smudge with pastels. We then studied our faces and discovered that we have lots of darker patches on our faces which we can see clearly when we look at a black and white printout of our faces.
We started by shading the dark areas of our printed out faces, including our eyebrows, with black pastels. We coloured our eyes hazel, black, brown or blue, and used white and black. Then we decided on the colours that would give us our skin colour. We finished off with hair and clothes, and some student like Shanaya, used white pastels for the lighter shading parts.
